Working with Big Cos V/s Midsize Cos
October 17th, 2006 by gaurav | Filed under .Few days back I met a guy who was working with a midsize IT company. During our conversation he told me that started his career with TCS and then moved on IBM and now to this midsize IT company. I was quite surprised to find out the transition having worked for such big names he was currently working for a company much smaller as compared to his previous employers.
Being intrigued by his decision for having left those companies I asked him what was his reason for moving and then joining a smaller organisation. He told me the two primary reasons that he moved, i) the bigger organisations can afford more people at bench & hence they always have more people than actually required. Therefore at times they were just required to sit idle and wait for a project being allotted to them. ii) the bigger organisations took a lot of time doing small things as many a times such companies have some functions centralised and that takes lot of time and things moves at slow pace.
He also told me that current company that he is working with has good projects and gives him a chance to add to his skills. All his reasons to work in a smaller firm seemed fair to me, I think there is a tremendous change in perceptions of people that does not drive them mad about bigger names but more common sense prevails now to achieve your career objective.
