Twenty-20 Cricket - Action packed bonanza?

India made their debut in Twenty-20 cricket against South Africa 2 days back. Twenty-20 cricket is basically a shortened version of One Day International Cricket match played 20 overs a side. The Twenty-20 is a result of declining crowds in English cricket where English teams performances have been below standards both in Tests & One Day arena to attract youngsters into the game. The other reason for it is that 50 over side match takes almost 8 hours to finish and people were finding it difficult to put it into their schdules.

There have been both positive & negative reactions to this new version of the game which does not really test the ability of the players. The game has become a batsman game where they come and just slog it out for 20 overs and put up a big total. It obviously seems to attract crowds and people enjoy it that takes around 2 hours to finish the whole game and that fits well even for people coming out to stadiums after finishing their work.

I personally like test cricket much more than one day and 20-20 format because their is hardly any strategy for teams to work out with. There is not for teams to bounce back, bowlers are always under pressure and have little role to play but in 21st century, crowds don’t get attracted by all this they want more action wherein bowl goes over fence more and don’t care about bowlers who put in lot of effort and their skills are not really put into test. Time is not far when we might see bowling machines being used in matches and batsman just slogging balls out of the ground.
