Some advice to Rajesh Khanna from a fan-atic fan.
Dear friends
It was good to see the recent article on Rajesh khanna starring again in a fim with Ms Zeenat Aman. But the pic accampanying the article was a caricature with Kaka ( Rajesh) dressed as a joker “romancing ” Ms Aman.
For a moment , I was stunned . With so many excellent young directors and editors/storytellers around today , incl the ever dependable Yash Chopra- to whom Kaka gave a huge break by starring in his first home production - DAAG- is this all that he can do?
Here are some serious questions that fans like me wld like to ask him…if he is really serious about a third comeback- (AVTAAR was the second comeback…)..if there are other wellwishers of Kaka who wld like to add more points, you are welcome.
Here Goes…
Why dont you and Amitabh get together and act in a high octane , powerpacked movie like copies of Heat - stg pacino and deniro or the french movie 36 stg 2 top french superstars depardieu and pascale or some of the fantastic , fast paced dialogue and action packed chinese crime movies featuring older stars?
the cat and mouse game between the actors in these movies are fabulous with great lines full of drama and wit.
Why dont you bury all old hatchets and make the move to work with someone like Javed or Anupam kher(in his avatar as director of classy films like Maine gandhiji ko nahin maara) or dev nihalani / ramgopalverma( you can do Sanjeev Kumar’s THAKUR role in his new version of SHOLAY) etc to come up with a really hard hitting social movie? also , you must work with Mr Yash chopra in a significant role- maybe opposite Amitabh in an epic story with multiple angles…Just imagine a pumped up Kabhie Kabhie or Trishul or Kane and Abel with powerful senior roles for you both?Or even 2 godfathers fighting it out in an epic 3 hr underworld saga?
Why dont you get into roles that really suit your age and looks with a strong dialogue driven edgy and gritty script focussing on political/criminal/social issues, directed by someone who can make it fast paced and tightly plotted?make sure the editor is the best in the business today.
Even though the press does not talk about it , many people in the film industry and your fans know how much your fall out with Salim Javed, Yash , Ramesh Sippy and Manmohan Desai cost you - you were the first choice - and they discussed roles for you - in Seeta aur Geeta,Sholay,Deewar,Kabhie kabhie,Suhaag etc etc but you never had the sense either to understand how significant these scripts were or to make up and work with them later on- the best people in the business when they were at their peak..
Why dont you completely forget about the old and in todays context- dated style of yours and just be totally natural and spontaneous?use your assets- the golden voice which has been burnished by age to say words beautifully and with depth.
pl look at some of the best movies of jack nicholson, al pacino ,clint eastwood, robert deniro , jack lemmon , even walter matthau etc to come up with some totally fresh ideas..there are so many hard hitting movies featuring senior stars , you will be spoilt for choice…what do u think Amit is doing? He is today the Indian Sean Connery backed by great PR.He is doing a great job WITHIN his limitations.
Also , at this stage pl play urban roles with cool and classy dark single-breasted suits as your major signature dress instead of all the dowdy ethnic stuff we are tired of seeing you in? also , do work out a little bit every day in your gym..And , get a shave pl…maybe you shd try your ASHANTI look…that will be cool today on you. By the way , wavy long hair always suited you best …any ideas of how to approximate that today??
So in short, work on tightly scripted ,dialogue driven urban thrillers where every scene must make an impact..forget about songs etc..pick films and directors like Amit does…socially relevant yet hardhitting.
at this stage ,it is script,impactful dialogues and delivery, spontaniety and pace that will help you come back
on top of all this, you need to hire a great PR guy to put you back front and center in the media.
Mr Khanna, you gave us a lot of pleasure many years ago. You still have atleast 10 yrs to go.If you are really serious about acting, pl work with the right people in the right roles.There is no need for you to do supporting shit now, at this stage of your life.You are a legend , no doubt , and no one can take that away from you so pl dont undermine your legacy by doing crap work today.
We wld love to see you and AMIT again today in a powerpacked Yash Chopra or RGV epic - scripted by Javed.You guys are all running out of time and this will be one for the ages..like Sholay or Anand.
Pl bury all the old, dead hatchets and make this happen - else why act today?
You know if that a great movie is made with you and Amit on an epic scale and is promoted well , it will break all records

Despite the fact that you have been given two or three opportunities to view and act in haunting up to date love stories{that would work at the box-office for you} you chose to bash down the telephone with four letter words{profanity galore} Then you appear with Zeenat Aman & you look ridiculous & dated and you are going to wonder where you failed or where your following failed you?
Firstly,
everyone should know that you are the world’s biggest spoiled sport- and ingrate -that you are at the emotional mercy of Dimple who is not the best judge of what you should or should not act in.Everyone should know HOW SCARED you are of DImple-that is how foolish you are- a wasted career to seduce a minor-with little or no education- Take the step to divorce- I can’t see your career being rec=vibved uness you snap ties with your ex- that kind of being on a leash is embarrassing-pls!!!
You have been given SOUND advice by a person ata distance & you have ignored - not wise not sound- a glutton for punishment are you??Answer your telephone- make that last gracious pghase just that- break ties with the past DIMPLE_ divorce or reunite -but on a chain???? i am just very uncomfortable at the tone and hectoring that pratheep used right from the beginning in his first posting which completely spoilt the positive mood of this forum,and was in a cheap,bullying and not at all gandhian spirit of generosity and kindness-in fact it was like hitler ver 2006 !

I have the greatest respect for Zeenat Aman.She is a professional of calibre as well as a great beauty.She has been a Dev Anand heroine as well as a Raj Kapoor heroine.
Her pairing with Rajesh Khanna is something I look forward to seeing.She is an underrated actress because she is so beautiful.Zeenat and Mr.Khanna have a chemistry on screen.Zeenat was always ahead of her time with progressive and cosmopolitan ideas.
How can such a modern lady be paired with what i have read previously a {you make Rajesh Khanna sound rustic}rustic actor.Obviously someone has missed some kind of point here.
If Rajesh Khanna was that rustic Zeenat wouldn’t act with him because she is better than most of the modern actresses and the Sophia Loren of India- where is the missing link in the puzzle?

I find nothing wrong with Rajesh Khanna and I have to agree that he dosen’t want to act with Amit .
They are now so different I am not sure that difference could be bridged.
Rajesh Khanna has a mind of his own and he isn’t vainglorious as the more modern actors are.here is more to life than films as he and his lovely wife have said. sSo they do other things - they are allrounders.They both have highly integrated personalities because they have raised good daughters and are good citizens. But for Amit ,it is only cellulloid that is a fixation. Maybe that is why he is more successful seemingly.Hardly a year after
Parveen’s death he went to death’s door and returned.I hope to God she was ill and that there wasn’t an iota of truth in what she said because the karma would have boomeranged now.
I find that sleek sophisticated thing Amit does sometimes one-dimensional because he dosen’t play diverse roles.
Don’t get me wrong - he is the tops and the Tower of Pizza ,but Khanna he is the Mona Lisa because you neverknow what to expect.
Good that he and Zeenat {she is beautiful and super talented } give it all are acting together.
You may wish you had Amit’s money but Khanna’s fun{joy rides on a tidal wave sounds like} that is something Amit will never have.

The are succinctly put ,incisive and would work if those two stars were up to it.
Pravin, felicitations on such beautifully well thought out suggestions.True when people rain on your parade it is tough but I loved your ideas-until the reality squad entered.

I have to agree with some of the previous comments.
Add to the list Kabir Bedi who has a reputation of everyone he has slept with passing away{Persis,Parveen Protima,etc.} and you have quite a few characters out there in Bollywood.
Dimple ,Rajesh,Amit,are part of the Bollywood mythology- but yes I agree something goes bump in the night when you go there with some of these actors.
Perhaps Amit should think about bowing out.He has made his mark.Khanna will not listen from what I discern and I am not certain where that discrepancy comes from.too bad however because there are some decent suggestions to him.
I would have loved to see Amit with Rekha one last time on the screen.

I thought Rajesh Khanna still loved Dimple although in 2003 an article appeared in Cineblitz that said a lady M and he were in love and that she fed him on the sets just as she fed him at the Betwaara inaugural.
Whether that is Maureen or Gurleen or whoever I am confounded by whatever woman of means in the Western world would get involved there.
I have heard inklings of a woman of means yes that was also beautiful and kind.The heresay states that she had some connections.
I am inclining to believe that it is truth and that khanna ruined the opportunity like he always does everything.
It would have affected his career because he is myopic that way.The lady was descended from royalty in one version.You can take the kaka out of India but you can’t take India out of the kaka.
Then his daughter Twinkle married and he pulled away from said lady as Dimple said no because she was foreign.I don’t think you can lead Khanna by the nose .Perhaps they are still friends who knows.If anyone does please tell.

Well here goes,this is what I know.
Rajesh Khanna was apparently having feelings for this lady who was foreign {non-Indian}.He invited her to India to share his bed but that got to Dimple who then told him no one sets foot in Ashirwaad {the sanctity of his bricks and house}and he said alright come but you aren’t going to set foot in my house.Said lady a millionairess,beautiful and kind wasn’t going to his house anyway but the statement was so crass along with a few other things Khanna did that she was very put off and did not go at all.
As a woman of means she wasn’t after his home and dosen’t need his money but the presupposition that she was another goldigger was too much.I know of a movie project that would have been a runaway hit that the lady proposed to Khanna but Dimple once more.
My facts are vague and not as concise as I would like- I woill clarify if I can contact said lady.Hope that helps

Dimple was going to act in Anna Karenina and I can’t think of anyone who is so unaristocratic to portray the Russian aristocracy-she is clueless about how they even comported themselves;about their manners and etiquette.That would have been incongruous.Also Dimple’s level of education is quite low although she is successful.

it would have been in Paris- I heard he said that he didn’t want to visit the past{that it pained Him? what about us???} and proceeded to accept several Lifetime Achievement awards from Indians-that was visiting the past.
Imagine Paris illumined and waiting and Khanna says no and what is more his wife turned down speaking to the producer after asking another intermediary to intevene for her.She flat out refused to speak on a threeway call which to me is sheer stupidity because she could have lent her face to Chanel or something else French where they want a mature and modern face.The renumeration would have been astronomical considering Nicole got 12 million for Chanel,Dimple got her foot in the door and slammed it shut on herself.Never mind the acclaim where she would have been well appreciated and treated like queen.

Both Rajesh Khanna and Zeenat Aman are legends in their own right…they appeal to different people for different reasons and have made enourmous contributions to Hindi cinema in their own way.
Some of the comments made are frankly vicious and shameful (cant believe some sicko decides he or she is qualified to call Zeenat a slut…you are mixing the image with a person you dont even know).You dont like her, no problems, but dont indulge in character assasination because you can be anonymous in a blog.
Thankfully, there are many sane voices…and healthy views/opinions shared too!

i am delighted to see such an animated and intelligent discussion devoted to mr rajesh khanna.
i wld like to add a few words about one of his most artistic but least known movies-NAUKRI.in 1978 or so hrishikesh mukherji filmed a script by salil chowdury stg kaka and raj kapur- no less.
this movie was in every way the exact 180 degree opposite of anand.if anand was about positivism and the power of living life to the fullest, in Naukri kakas character is one of the most defeatist,suicidal and loser type ever portrayed on indian film.
heis a one legged soldier who has only disaster all around him …in short a complete anti thesis of anand..it is a very depressing film- deliberately so - i think hrishi da was pushing kaka to do a role that was the complete opposite of anand,bawarchi etc..and to top it all raj ji - who was the original choice for anand- plays the positive spirit that teaches rajesh hope after he commits suicide–it is one of the most philosophical,thoughtful and yet unrelentingly depressing art house film that came and went without any ripples during the height of the angry young man era.i saw a vcd of this movie recently at rythm house in bby and grabbed it …then i was mesmerised by the guts these guys had to make such a totally non commercial film which frankly had zero hope of making any money.
i feel it is one of rajesh’s greatest roles- and rajs last great swansong and a movie that deserves to be seen more- atleast by lovers of art cinema/good cinema.nadira and asrani also starred in this film.zaheera was kakas love interest.just shows how much kaka was willing to experiment even when he was a mainstream matinee idol.
i also saw this picture naukri in calcutta in the late 70s and was struck by the total difference between this film and every other movie of the time.it was definitely the riskiest film made by hrishida,rajesh khanna and raj kapur …you are right , they took every theme of anand and turnrd it inside out..if anand was about hope, this was about desperation…even though , if i remember right , there is an attempt to tie thikns up at the very end of the movie…..it showed real guts from kaka - and his total trust and respect for hrishida- when he was down in the market to do this film
naukri was a weird and depressing but yes, totally different movie starring mainstream stars ….yes it was a daring experiment by a rich producer…maybe the crew worked for free..as the movie seems to have taken its own sweet time to get completed and released…i saw it on doordarshan many many yrs ago..it must rank as one of the artiest movies ever made in india –very deep…anyway its interesting to see so many reviews of naukri after 25 yrs

Veteran film-maker Hrishikesh Mukherjee was admitted at Leelavati Hospital in Mumbai today. He had been in poor health for quite a while now and has reportedly become critical. He has been put on ventilator and is under observation. Last week, rediff spoke to his daughter Neelu who said that his health was bad since long and that he was on dialysis, four times a week.
Hrishikesh Mukherjee, the legend of the Indian cinema, began his career as an editor and assistant director to Bimal Roy way back in 1951. His first directorial venture was Musafir in 1957. In 1959, Raj Kapoor recommended Mukherjee to be the director of Anari which starred Raj himself and Nutan. The movie turned out to be very successful, both critically and commercially. He then went on to make many classics like Anand (1970), a complex emotional story of a terminally ill man, starring Rajesh Khanna and Amitabh Bachchan. He had a series of hits with Amitabh Bachchan which included movies like Abhimaan and Namak Haram. Jaya Bachchan’s biggest hits like Guddi and Mili were also with Hrishida. Besides, these intense films, he made comedies which include the classic Chupke Chupke (1975) starring Dharmendra, Om Prakash and Amitabh Bachchan. His favourite hero was Amol Palekar with whom he made a series of comedy films which includes the famous Golmaal.

He screamed profanities and at the mention of a question for Simple ailing he swept all the microphones of the table.The article says that Khanna made a mockery of himself and is at his lowest.
Simple is married with a son I believe.Dimple’s other sister Reem died a number of years ago.Whatever Khanna is today and his plight is due to bad choices and delusions of yesterday’s grandeur.Peace and love everybody.

Someone in this blog has said that he does not see anything in her…Truth is She’s always been the victim of a very unjust campaign by the press. People even said that she was as ugly as Dimple was beautiful…Was she worth that public flogging?And why has she always been second best to everyone? Dimple, Twinkle, Rinke, Tabu, Amrita Singh, etc…She’s always at bollywood parties and never a picture or a good word about her????Why???What does she lack compared to those actresses I mentioned above? Howeveryou cannot hide truth from discerning minds and there were some on that forumthat were fiesty about Simple and analysis was brilliant But when I read Dimple is as fair as a Greek I want to be sick because my neighbours are Greek and the grandmother is as white as snow.However I took over a picture of Dimple and Simple since the y love cinema and theater and are always interested and the YIA YIA said Simple was far more beautiful.So I think we have a consencus. So what she lacked was supportive sister.Simple is as beautiful as some of the great Hollywood screen divas.Her face is utterly symmetrical and she has a pretty good figure compared to Dimple.What a radiant smile.What chiselled characteristics on her face. Even at Rishi Kapoor’s daughter’s wedding she is at extreme very extreme right in the picture.Why so as not to get in Miss Fantastic’s way.Dimple has bleached her face come on.Simple deserved better but she should have spilt Dimple and started to own her identity which was by then enmeshed in Dimple’s.

Simple is not UGLY.The Kapadias have a great gene pool.What the hell with you Vikshaye?Neither of the Kapadia sisters and Reem too was UGLY . They have a very beautiful mother.Read aloud what you are saying “the servant sister” of Dimple.Simple is beautiful in her own way. No accounting for tastes. But you do not have the right to call her ugly when she is far from it.
I can think of a couple of Bollywood actresses she sould have given a run for their money.
