5 tips to avoid phishing attacks

Few days back i came across a post - Beware of Fake UTI Bank page online” by WATBlog, where in the phisher has put a login page which is exact replica of UTI’s Bank login page asking for username and password to login. So once any one tries to use this page as login they are basically submitting their details to wrong people and which will give them access to bank account of person submitting to this page.

What is phising?

Phishing is a criminal activity using social engineering techniques. Phishers attempt to fraudulently acquire sensitive information, such as passwords and credit card details, by masquerading as a trustworthy person or business in an electronic communication. Phishing is typically carried out using email, website link or an instant message, although phone contact has been used as well.

5 tips to avoid phishing attacks

a) Be suspicious of unsolicited phone calls, visits, or email messages from individuals asking about employees or other internal information. One should never release his password and other sensitive information to any person on phone or email even if the sender or caller is from the organisation you are dealing with as they are not allowed to ask such details.

b) Pay attention to the URL of a web site. Malicious web sites may look identical to a legitimate site, but the URL may use a variation in spelling or a different domain (e.g., .com vs. .net). If you check the link in the post at WATBlog, you will see that phishers have displayed the link name as UTI’s bank website but when you click on it will take you to geocities website.

c) Do not reveal personal or financial information in email, and do not respond to email solicitations for this information. This includes links sent in an email. If you any get such email, you will see sender’s email which might look similar but will have some or the other different in case they are asking you to reply.

d) If you are unsure whether an email request is legitimate, try to verify it by contacting the company directly. Do not use contact information provided on a web site connected to the request; instead, check previous statements for contact information.

e) Don’t send sensitive information over the Internet before checking a web site’s security.

This scrappy guy, Murata Boy weighing around 11 lbs. and standing 20 in. tall, does something that no other robot can: ride a bike. Thanks to gyro sensors in his body and a camera in his head, not only can he keep himself upright, but he can also peer ahead to make sure he rides in a straight line. An ultrasonic sensor in his chest keeps him from plowing into walls, and wireless technology allows him to communicate with a PC for navigating complex routes.

Solid Espress to eat with spoonSpanish mastermind Ferran Adrià is famous for tinkering with food at the molecular level to produce wonders like liquid ravioli and frozen Parmesan air. His latest gastronovelty: solid espresso. It’s made by combining regular espresso with sugar and a secret ingredient, then squirting it out of a canister like whipped cream. You eat it with a spoon.
