Delhi Bloggers Meet - 30 July 2006

July 31st, 2006 by gaurav | 2 Comments | Filed in

I had made plans for the first time to attend the bloggers meet organised by Soumyadip on Sunday, 30 July, 6:30 pm, at DV8, Regal Building, Connaught Place. At the eleventh hour, I had an unexpected guest - my first cousin from US who has come for a 6 day short visit came to our place for dinner.

I was pretty excited about attending the meet but destiny had some other plans for me yesterday. I am hoping for another bloggers meet again which I am definitely going to attend. Luckily I got the phone number from Shivam’s blog and informed him that I would not be able to make it.

Now I am looking forward for some details and pictures of the meet.

5 Tips for getting cheap domestic Air tickets

July 31st, 2006 by gaurav | 3 Comments | Filed in , ,

1) Use internet for different airlines sites/travel engines

2) Be flexible in scheduling your travel plan dates, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Saturdays are typically the cheapest days to fly and late-night & early morning flights are also quite cheap.

3) Unlike on international routes, domestic routes does not offer any advantage using the same airline for both directions, so you can choose to take an Airline A while going and take Airline B while coming back.

4) Ask about student, senior citizens or any other special discounts.

5) Start your search as soon you have made plans to travel, the sooner you book, the cheaper will be the tickets and try finding tickets availability for different dates as rates vary from one day to the other.

John Wright - Indian Summers

John Wright's Book - Indian SummersJohn Wright, former New Zealand cricket team captain and first foreign coach for Indian cricket team had come out with a book - Indian Summers which covers the details of the stint that he had, while he was coaching the team. He has heavily criticized the Indian selectors to be biased to select the players from their own zones. But that is something not very new, one can expect this from Indian selectors.

To be fair to him he had done a good job with the Indian team and produced some good results which includes a place for India in the finals of the World Cup where India eventually lost.

He also came out supporting Saurav Ganguly when he was left out of the Indian team following his love-hate affair with Coach Greg Chappel and said that such things happened during his stint as well and those should kept hidden and not to be made public. But his book release suggest something otherwise which will open fresh can of worms to be discussed what happened during his tenure.

Chappel might learn a trick here from Wright that it is good idea to note his briefings/discussions now with the team that will help him to write a book too later when his stint gets over.

Remembering Bishop Cotton School-Shimla

Last year I had written about 146th founders day of Bishop Cotton School. It feels great to be a part of such a school which turns 147 today. The site of the school is inacccessible for quite sometime now, I wonder what could be the reason, it is one of the threads that connect to the old memories.

Visiting the OCA’s website rekindles the memories of yesteryears. I was just going through the batch year pages of the batches and found that there is no page for our batch of 1993. I recently heard from Abhishek Singh Gaur, who has moved to Singapore sometime back. Going to write to him to ask if he has any group photograph of the the batch of 1993.

Keep going BCS…
