Brand versus Features

August 23rd, 2005 by gaurav | 9 Comments | Filed in

One of my friends wanted to buy a cellphone for his father, he had shortlisted his options and went to the market to see the real product before buying one. He was looking to buy either one of the following - Nokia 2600 or LG 1600 or Sony Ericsson (don’t remember model) which all are in same price range.

To whichever shop we went and asked for their suggestion which is better among all of the them and each one of them said Nokia is Nokia which meant that blindly go for Nokia whereas when we compared the features Nokia is worst among them there is no comparison. LG 1600 mobile has lot more features than Nokia 2600 but none of the shopkeepers pointed out anything in favour of LG.

I believe that Nokia as a brand has created a dent in the minds of people and they are unable to look beyond the name and in the process they forgo the better alternatives that are available in the market.

‘Miracle’ child

A child, delivered by a woman in the washroom of a running train, slipped down the toilet hole and was later found alive on the tracks between Khatoli and Mansuri railway stations, 15 km from Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh.

Shabnam was travelling from Meerut to Saharanpur with her brother on Sunday. She developed labour pain and went to the toilet where she delivered.

The child, however, fell down onto the tracks. A search was launched when the train stopped at Mansurpur station.

The child was found on the tracks and was handed over to its mother, who continued her journey to Saharanpur with her ‘miracle’ child.

Sehwag on Sachin’s footsteps

August 16th, 2005 by gaurav | 4 Comments | Filed in ,

Sehwag has again taken a cue from Sachin’s book by opening a restaurant in Delhi. Sehwag who idolises Sachin on field looks very similar while batting and two have been compared often in the past. Sachin who opened a restaurant in Mumbai quite sometime back. Saurav Ganguly who recently made a comeback as captain of India’s team had also opened a restaurant in his home town Kolkata last year. It seems that Indian players consider themselves good restaurateur.

The Indian team’s lack lustre performance since last year has made them look for alternate options in case some major changes takes place in the team if India could not lift its performance and some top guns might face axe.

Sehwag has mentioned, “Everyone makes plans for their retirement. Some people make them early and some late. If I have made them early, what is wrong with that.”

Just wondering if he is considering retirement???
